New Telecom corridor
That strip of land in North Dallas, Richardson, and Plano was/is way too dependent on Telecom. The stocks for these companies has been in a free fall for the last 2 years and is not necessarily related to the latest stock market downturn. Telecom suckage is reflected more in the precipitous drop in the Nasdaq, from the high of 5000, rather than the Dow or S&P.

I personally don't think the Stock Market crash of '29 was the cause of the Depression - just a rather visible clue that something wasn't right with the economy. The root cause is probably more tied to the destruction of European economies in WWI and the collapse of world trade.
New Denver too
I can't go home to Denver because there's no work there.

When I left, the Sunday Post had 4-6 pages of software developer listings and I could usually get some job in a day - a real plumb might take a few weeks. Now there's maybe half a column of really crummy jobs. Denver's market is largely telco and cable.

New Just like Houston and oil
when I first moved to Houston everything was oil driven. Oil slump happened and everything was pretty bad. Nowadays Houston has a diverse enough economy that a slump in a single area isn't that bad.

Austin's been going through the same thing the past couple of years due to the dot com crash.

New Or Denver and Oil Circa 1989
Which is when I first moved there.

So this whole thing looks kinda familiar.
