"Only two things come out of Oklahoma..."
Ever seen [link|http://us.imdb.com/Quotes?0084434|An Officer and a Gentleman]?
(Ah, Louis Gossett Jr -- nobody does the "mean drill sergeant" stereotype as well as he. Except perhaps Clint Eastwood, of course. :-)

Okefenokee Swamp, GA, USA
[link|http://www.iatse479.com/okefenokee.htm|Here.]
I thought that the song was from later than Will's time, and a play on above National Park name - but that's just a guess. (click on 'map' link at bottom of above page, to see it in SE corner of Georgia)
But indeed 'Okies' *are from Oklahoma (making above re Okie from Fenokee a real mongrel). Hell. maybe there IS a 'Fenokee' in Oklahoma (!)
* were.. during the dustbowl, the ones who Could -- left. Lots arrived in CA (though unConstitutionally kept out at the CA border.. for a time) We have a long history of selective deafness to our Own Rulez.

The song is "Okie from Muskogee" - isn't it?
Merle Haggard.
[link|http://www.execpc.com/~suden/okie_muskogee.html|Here].
I don't know where he got the inspiration. Maybe from R&H's "Oklahoma!" and such.
At least that's the song that rings a bell with me. :-)
Cheers, Scott.

Longhorns come out of Texas.
The average hunter gatherer works 20 hours a week. The average farmer works 40 hours a week. The average programmer works 60 hours a week. What the hell are we thinking?

Sure have - just plain forgot! Sor-reee...
Mattrafact, now that I looked up [link|http://us.imdb.com/Title?0093058|FMJ on the IMDB], I can only wonder: "Who the fuck is [link|http://us.imdb.com/Name?Ermey,+R.+Lee|R. Lee Ermey]?"
I was sure that, too, was Lou Gossett.
Oh well, it *has* been a while... Forteen years, it seems.
