Not exactly real impressive stuff. The problem I saw is that Bush mentioned a lot of problems but didn't have any solutions other then asking companies to do better in the future. The remedies he did propose don't address the actual problems. Bush's speech didn't go over well on Wall Street either. Stock market ended at 9096, down 178 for the day. Jay

As with the juveniles who end each sentence with that up-pitch which implies a question (as if they aren't sure they actually meant anything just said?) [that was a free written sample] - there's Bush's forced lilt and exaggerated pronunciation of inner syllables. He's doing less of the Ed -ja-Kay'-Shun stuff, but the sing-song is emotion-free, the pace is almost unvaried - except when he's making another smirky Texas-styled threat to someone new. It's all.. so.. obviously scripted, and all he can manage is to pro-Noun-ce the script. Nope, nothing new. No improvements to speak of - just more of the droning same: predictable next phrases. Often bellicose cliches with Evil- somewhere. Chip off the old block / Dynasty, this boy.. Guess few here recall what the Elder Bush actually sounded like (?) Hail to the Res. Guess we should be grateful he ain't much of an actor either, or . . Gawd.. anyone ever see flics of the JFK press conferences?
Post #45,052 by wharris2 7/10/02 3:00:35 PM Reply	Bush speaking Neither Bush can deliver a particularly good speech; I had the "opportunity" to listen to Bush Sr. in person and it was the most boring delivery of a fairly interesting subject I've ever heard. Every time I've heard Bush Jr. do a speech, about the best I can say is that he's not as bad as his father or Al Gore, but except for those two, I've never heard such lousy delivery in all the speeches (listened to or recorded) from any president or presidential candidate. Of course, pre-circa 1972 I've only heard the most famous speeches by the most famous presidents, but even so... Nixon's resignation speech had more vim and vigor than any speech I've ever heard from Bush Sr, Bush Jr, and Al Gore combined. Whoops, I forgot about one more villain: add Bob Dole, Senator from Archer-Daniel Midland, to the list.

Had he been able to orate like that during the campaign, things may very well have turned out differently. On Ashton's comment re: upturn at the end of each sentence: Canadians do that too. But when did he give his concession speech? I don't think it was election night, and I hate watching network "talking head" news. In other news, Florida (home of the hanging chads, or "I'm too stupid or senile to punch a card") will be testing a new ballot system. (My county had/has a punch system, too, but I don't remember it being a problem anywhere other than Florida.) Famous last RPG quotes: "I'll just shoot this fireball down the dungeon passageway..."

While Jeb Bush (and others) have promised new and better voting machines, the last I heard was that the money they promised had vanished and wasn't going to be around. But they were trying to go to a Touch Screen system. (I have suspicions about such a system though - I think it would be more prone to tampering.) As for the Chad issue - two things There have been complaints about the punch system in prior elections. (However those races were decidedly won and it was ignored.) One state has apparently found problems with the punch system and their legislature actually requires them to count dimpled chads. (So it's not just Florida.) Ah well, Florida - we can't get the voting thing worked out....but we can teach terrorists to fly into buildings!

I can't remember the exact quote, but it was something like 'I'f they are too stupid to figure out something this simple, then it was no great loss.' I hope to see it expressed many more times before the next election. Let's see what this compassionatly conservative opinion means- Free and fair elections don't have to be fair for the incompetent (my best choice of a term for the Republican description of the elderly). Charming. Like I said, I hope to see this often. That's quite a large voting block to be insulting. "We are patriotic citizens too.
