New The Lovely Ann Coulter labels Tom T. "UnMurican"
[link|http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Printable.asp?ID=1694| here.]

Tom T's response and briefest mini-bio of the Lovely Ann is [link|http://www.thismodernworld.com/|here.]

As luck would have it, I saw Ann on the last Politically Incorrect on Friday (hadn't realized that was to be the last, just yet). She was supportive of Maher and the aim of the show - "to evoke actual discussion" on Murican meeja. Bummer: that leaves 0 non-Right shows in the entirely vast wasteland. Yup - that was the end of Liberal bias; it's been reduced by 100%. For purely financial reasons of course. Nothing to see here. The Market has worked its magical selection process.

Hard to reconcile her sane words Fri. with the cookbook sloganeering on the link above, and 180\ufffd reversal of its obvious meaning. Professional schizoneuralgia? Thought I was reading Human Events again.. From '50s. Must be those ultra-hyperlinks thingies (?) which transcend the passage of time in ordinary mortals.

Sorta like.. the theory that All of the gravy served in (SF) North Beach bistros.. is stored in Coit Tower?

If competence is considered "hubris" then may I and my country always be as "arrogant" as we can possibly manage.
New Re: The Lovely Ann Coulter labels Tom T. "UnMurican"
The vast majority of people who read my cartoon live in places like Dayton and Austin and Athens and Des Moines and Missoula and Milwaukee and Buffalo and Savannah and Springfield, and while they may not believe that twenty-first century Americans are God's chosen people, and while they may find cause to disagree with Republican policies and priorities, I think they'd be very surprised to learn that they are anything but ordinary Americans.

But we are ordinary Americans. What's so surprising about the entire middle of the country being "ordinary"?

I like Doonesbury, even though he constantly needles the right. When the Left deserves it, he'll laugh at them too. I can't stand Tom Tomorrow because he doesn't needle or jab, he chops and beheads with every cartoon. Tom T is more to the left than even Jerry Fallwell is to the right.

No matter what defeatist tack liberals take, real Americans are behind our troops 100 percent, behind John Ashcroft 100 percent, behind locking up suspected terrorists 100 percent, behind surveillance of Arabs 100 percent.

Now here, of course, Ann is wrong. I'm certainly not behind Ashcroft 100%. The sweeping powers in the name of "security" that got pushed through and are getting pushed through (which pretty much include every item on the Justice Department's "wish list" that has previously been turned down time and time again) are scary.

New Granted, Tom's not one for subtlety.
And most of the ironies he gloms onto are cheap, or bogus, or both. But at least he can draw better than Herblock could.

Left-of-center cartooning has just gone steadily downhill since Walt Kelly died. Trudeau doesn't suck, but neither is he as all-fired great as everyone says he is.

On the other side, who's gonna step up to fill the shoes of MacNelly?

New She's right about one thing.
These people simply do not have an implacable desire to kill those who cheered the slaughter of thousands of American citizens.
That's right. I do not.

Because I understand that those people cheering are no different from our people cheering when we bomb one of their cities.

I understand that those people waving their flags are no different from our people waving our flags.

I understand that if one of our "patriots" were born over there instead of over here, s/he'd be one of those cheering the the death of US citizens.

The MENTALITY doesn't change, just the object of it.

And THAT is determined by where you live.

They kill innocents.

We kill innocents.

They're trying to drive what they perceive as a foreign invader from their homeland.

We're retaliating for their attacks against us.

If you can rise above that, if you can move on from that, you weren't angry in the first place.
The ability to rise above your emotions and view the situation without that encumberance is one of the marks of an adult.

There are cultures that carry the anger of "crimes" committed against them across generations.

You know which ones I'm talking about.

To paraphrase Orwell, in this war, those who cannot stay focused on fighting the enemy are objectively pro-terrorist.
If you ain't fer us, you're agin us.

Sorry, the world does not operate on that dichotomy. Despite the efforts of certain individuals to claim it does.

The response to the attacks has, and this has been admitted by the experts, resulted in an even MORE difficult situation. The various cells no long have any form of central reporting.

The CORRECT response would have resulted in Osama's capture/death. Along with increased intelligence on the cells.

This did not happen.

We are NOT changing our course.

Even though the EXPERTS have ADMITTED that such a course is a FAILURE in its stated goals.

Terrorism is NOT diminished.

Wanting to correct the course to achieve the goals is NOT pro-terrorist.
