Why would anybody adhere to a law in a foreign country that does not benefit them at all? I'm pretty sure you're not patronizing the Walla Walla Washington valley advertisers that keep this paper going. The lawyer said don't open yourself up to people on the other side of the world suing you, cut them out. So they did.
There's many other sources for this horrible information that you could Google if it interests you.
Your privacy regulations are wonderful. I wish we had them. Not that it would do any good since we have no one to enforce them no matter what we have. But the bottom line is we don't have them and anyone doing business on your side of the world has to adhere to them and that's going to cost opportunities because they won't be able to use the data they gather and it's going to cost the money because they're going to have to track all kinds of stuff they don't currently.
I would never suggest anybody voluntarily fall under your data control restrictions if they don't have to.
