Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I got friends that run ME, against my advice
don't know why. One friend thought it was Windows 2000, it was pre-installed on his Gateway. Once I came over to install a DSL modem for him, I learned it was Windows ME. But what can I do about it when they don't want to switch?

I am free now, to choose my own destiny.
New I can understand some things.
Those pre-installed WinME computers (shudder), mostly laptops but I guess some other computers, well, that I can understand. Not wanting to spend the money to upgrade to XP or 2000, or spend additional money for Win98SE or Win98 or whatever, that I understand and sympathize with. There *are* things that can be done to make WinME almost livable.

But actually going out and *buying* a copy?
New I'm sure I've said this before.
I've got WinME on my VAIO laptop (pre-installed - natch). The only reason it is still there is because it is actually stable. Really!

New Don't think I've seen it before
but I'm sure I've expressed my philisophy before - if it works (1) and ain't broke(2), don't fix it.

(1) if you suddenly found a need for some device or program WinMe didn't run, obviously WinMe wouldn't be working for you any more.

(2) Broke is the increasing number of "blue screens of death" I'm getting from NT4 at work. On the other hand, it *does* run a number of utilities I need to run that the company does not have in its budget to upgrade to the equivalent 2000 or XP versions.

New NT4 eats itself.
I used to have a work colleague who ran NT 4 Server on his workstation. He generally had to re-install it every 6 months because over time it's idle memory usage visibly increased. Yes: even with reboots!

New My hopes
I'm hoping we can get money in the budget this upcoming fiscal year for Windows 2000 or Windows XP versions of the utilities I use, so I can dump NT 4.
