A little different here.
We do have power failures here. The longest was a couple months ago, a day and a half.
When it goes out, one computer, likely idle, and the laser printer go down. I shut down the critical computer and turn off the UPS. I turn off the UPS for the phone system so it's available if really needed.
I get out a couple of LED lanterns. Then I go to bed. The water bed will retain it's heat for more than a day. The fridges won't defrost for about 2 days.
For that long one, the power was back on for a few hours before I noticed. I went to get a beer and wondered what that noise was, then realized the fridge was running.
Sometimes it pays to be a Luddite - actually, quite often.
