Sure, those also tend to wear out in the end, when you twist them too hard to pop out your ice cubes (or usually prisms nowadays), but that usually takes me many years. Dunno if I've ever even seen a silicone one.
Silicone? Don't they sell the simple old plastic ones over there any more?

INBLANDAT!
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/inblandat-ice-cube-tray-blue-80429583/ We've got a few of those, but have never used them. Tiny ice trapezoidal prisms. Best wishes, Scott. |

I shatter the plastic ones quickly

Yeah, I also used to. They've been using far less crappy plastic lately, though. Less brittle now.

I accept the possibility they're better
But at this point it doesn't matter. I like this thing. When it breaks I'll throw it away and maybe replace it. Or maybe get some plastic trays then. But until then, once a month I'm going to make a lot of ice. I've got lots of freezer space to keep it. But past that I'm not going to make anymore or else I'd have to buy more freezer space. On the other hand, freezers prefer to be full. This will be good for them. After each run, I let it sit on the counter with a fan blowing from the top into it for a few hours to dry it out before I put it away. |

Planned obsolescence
I was just at my mother's house. She still has the same trays from when I was growing up. Still look new, still pop cubes out mostly in one piece. -- Drew |

It's everywhere. :-(

Has been that way for a while, I think.
