What so many of these people wanted was vengeance - against the more successful, better educated, more prosperous, and more cultured Blue State "elites", folks they saw as dissing them and making them look stupid.

All these people voted for was vengeance, with no thought of how damaging their choice would be to them personally. Vengeance was the only consideration, and Trump promised vengeance, over and over, "I am your vengeance! I am your vengeance!".

So, yes, Trump's success resulted from millions of women voting against their own best interests - the very people Democrats expected to carry them to victory.
