Good stuff.
The car starts overheating. It's a hybrid. The heat does not work. The fan does not do anything.
Fine. We got the Yukon. It'll just be guzzling gas. The battery was dead and then I charged it and that happened a few times over the last couple of years. It is a marine deep discharge battery that was already 2 years old when I got this thing 3 years ago. We've been driving it a week. No problem. It took one jump and charged immediately and has been useful ever since.
AAA takes the Niro to the dealership an hour away. Dealership describes 2 to $10,000 worth of work. Love those ranges. Won't know until they do the diagnostics deeply.
Car was there last week, got some work done. They remember it. They have pictures.
When the AAA tow truck driver dropped off the car, the front undercarriage was ripped apart. Happened between the point of pickup and the point of drop off.
Insurance had to get involved. We just moved from a lifetime of Allstate to Geico. Local tow company (aaa contractor) will pay the deductible. Since we were not driving it at the time of supposed accident, our insurance will not use it against us for future rates.
The Niro was going in for a combination of warranty and optional work to start off with. It just happened to die the day before it was supposed to go in.
The dealership service department had to get involved with calling for various warranties. There was a bunch of warranty fuses and replacing the exhaust system and then they found out the 12 volt battery was swollen and then they replaced that along with a bunch of other associated stuff. I wonder if that swollen battery was about to explode?
Both carvana extra warranty that we bought and the Niro default long-term warranty were involved. By the time they were done they had about eight grand worth of work. We paid a few hundred.
So we pick up the car this morning. It was an hour drive to go get it. Yay, cruise control and USB connected music from my phone. This is great. A beautiful ride home through the mountains. I love when you see these rows of trees that go up into infinity and then meet the clouds.
An almost perfect ride. Until I realized that there is no fan in the heat system. There is no climate control.
The starting problem was never fixed. Who knows what's about to go next?
Dealership expects it back and will not charge for whatever it is. At least I enjoy the rides.
