New Septic tank
This is my first septic tank. They scare me. They should.

When I moved in I had it inspected and it was fine. 3 years later it's time to inspect it again and they show up and say this doesn't look very good.

We can't do an inspection until you pump. That's fine, I was expecting to pump. Arrange for that.

Okay, that's in a couple of weeks.

But. There is a problem with the field. There is a problem with the pipes in the field. There is something going on that can't even be determined until the pump is done.

Uh-Oh.

Any idea of what to expect? What's possible in the ranges?
New Spendy.
If you have to redo the field, they possibly have to dig everything out, like 6 feet down or more, and replace it all with gravel and sand so it can drain, then lay down a new field. Ours was $12K to rebuild about 20 years ago.

It could be tree roots, which get in and clog everything. The field can still work even so, as long as there's some room to drain. We had a lot of clay in the soil as well as tree roots.

Suggestions: the less water you put in a septic field the better. And there are biotic products you can get to maintain the health of the tank.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New I knew absolutely nothing about the field when I got here
An early inspector pointed to a certain point and said drive here and don't drive there. He was only talking about the tank area. Not the field. But now I do and I did bad things over the field. So it's going to cost.
New You cracked all the pipes then?

New Who knows?
