The SUV / cross-over craze has infested us, too, so fairly sure that's not it.

I drive the SUV so little I took it off the insurance
M works at night. If the Kia Niro is not available to me, I don't want to drive it anyway. I don't want to drive anything anyway at night here. My old man night vision eyes tells me to cut that shit out. I don't want to drive the SUV anyway. Just based on gas mileage and comfort level. Yes, the Yukon is a crazy high-end fun luxury vehicle. The Kia is just as comfortable and far more a pleasure to drive. Keep in mind the Yukon is rather old and does not have cruise control. That's just one piece I was not willing to fix when I bought it. That means the Kia can hug the downgrades by automatically applying the brakes during cruise control (And it does it very well) versus the Yukon that I better pay damn close attention before the brakes either overheat or don't hold close enough during a downgrade. This is a rare thing just based on the fact that I don't have many of those types of downgrades here. But when I do it counts. All of this becomes moot when I engage the four-wheel drive. But I rarely rarely do that. So it sits in my driveway. And I try to cut the grass that pokes out from underneath. And I annoy the neighbors. The high-end deep discharge battery has been deep discharged one time too many and that thing is not keeping a charge. So I bought a flashlight sized capacitor jump device that is capable of jumping it a dozen times before a recharge is necessary. That will get me to town and back and parked a few times and rejumped if I have to. Actually indefinitely as long as I immediately plug it into the 12 volt charger and bring it back to top. So if I ever choose to use it I will walk outside and jump it and let it run for a while. And while it's running I have to call it my insurance agent and activate the insurance. At that moment it's a minor cost for the month. |

But I was wrong about the battery
I bought one of these about 3 years ago. I had a dying battery in a van I was getting rid of but then I was not replacing the battery. I just kept this thing on it until the guy picked it up. 4 Modes Car Battery Charger, 24V/12V Battery Charger Automotive, 4A/8A LCD Battery Charger Switching Automatically from Fast Charging to Trickle Charging for AGM Lead-Acid Batteries https://a.co/d/3sj9Hts This thing isn't available but there are many successors. The battery in the SUV is at least 5 years old. It is a marine deep discharge battery as opposed to a typical car battery and this lady bought it because she was living out of this vehicle. Then it got to sit in my driveway for the last 3 years, being driven a total of about 100 mi, and nothing in the last year. I had done multiple jumps and then drive around the neighborhood and let it run but that never allowed the battery to start the car the next day. So I let this device run on it for a couple of hours and the vehicle started just fine and then I drove it around the neighborhood and then I let it sit for about 10 minutes. It started fine on its own the next day. Wait 2 days. It started fine on its own again. Wait 3 days. It started fine on its own again. So it seems this battery actually came back to life. Amazed. I just got some gasoline stabilizer. I'm amazed the engine hasn't gummed up with this year old gas. Time to go fill it with a quarter tank and throw the stabilizer in. I have two 5 gallon gasoline jugs that have been sitting there a year that have not had the stabilizer in it. Can I still use that gasoline? Do I have to dispose of it? |
