Keep in mind this is to a previous boss who has had different ideas than I about the past and what we needed to do to make the best organization we could. So basically we've been fighting for many years but while I respect his opinion, I like to tweak him occasionally.

I've been emailing him like this for at least 20 years.

Also , I dictate and occasionally just say screw it and ramble on for a bit and say next. I try not to do this for web posts but for emails to friends I really couldn't give a shit. So you get it in the full unedited portion.

People showed up today. They interacted poorly over the Airbnb messaging but I would never say that. That's because we ask personal questions. Do you want the Murphy bed setup?

This touches off a shitload of internal sexuality questions. And then it requires some type of response to a stranger.

Oh no, I'm just traveling with my best friend and of course we'll need the Murphy bed setup.

No, you're not. You're going to fuck like bunnies or scissor like bunnies or do whatever like bunnies and that's why you're here.

Keep in mind, 99% of the same-sex couples are women. I have not noticed one male couple.

Just tell me NO so I don't set up the second bed for no reason and wash those sheets one more God damn time. And those are the queen size sheets. They're not interchangeable with the king size sheets and they're the only ones I have right now (the other queen ones are the same) so I can't get rid of them. They are some incredible, wonderful cotton. They have a slightly rough edge to them, but you know they're the best thing you could ever want.

Those sheets capture other sheets in the dryer. They roll up in a tight ball and leave wet pockets. I hate those fucking sheets. Don't make me make that bed one more God damn time unnecessarily. Woo, ran out of breath.

You have any idea how much time I spent making beds and washing sheets? I had never washed a sheet in my life until a girlfriend/wife told me to. I have never made a bed in my life unless some external force made me. I hate fucking making beds.

But nowadays it's a continuous thing. There is at least 4 hours of everyday of guest turnover. That includes stripping beds and pillowcases and washing them and then making them. When we say make them, that includes that stupid comforter that no one uses. You're a moron if you use that comforter. That comforter never gets washed.

In our case it gets ozoned constantly so nothing can grow on it. But if you go to a hotel or motel and you touch that comforter/ bedspread, you're an idiot.

So I wash it all and I throw everything together including that stupid bedspread and I create this beautiful stack of pillows. It's a mixture of the permanent pretty pillows that we never wash the covers of and the newly covered pillows that people sleep on.

I'm amazed that people sleep on pillows at a hotel. When's the last time that pillow has been washed? Has it ever seen ozone? Not a chance. Germ phobia rules!

When I travel I always bring my blanket and my pillow. Never touch the comforter, never touch the blanket if you can avoid it, stay under the sheet. And my own pillow and blanket that I brought.

So everything is perfect and everything has been freshly washed and everything is oh so beautiful.

I'm going to put a message to the current guests right now to please don't make the bed on your way out. That's one of my greatest frustrations. Okay, message sent, screenshot attached. I tried not to be too harsh.

I actually had to remove a comment about people stupidly making beds. Of course I didn't say stupidly but whatever comment I had, I got rid of. Most of my time when crafting messages is getting rid of 90% of whatever I say in the first place. I'm quite aware that I need to edit.

Including to you. Imagine how harsh the initial shit that flows out of my brain and mouth is that I have to delete 90% of it.

Okay rambling some more.

My tomato plants are doing wonderful. They require me to water them everyday. They are individual plants in 10 gallon bags of dirt. The bottom is about 2 in of volcanic rock to allow for drainage and root air flow.

You had tomato plants in a box. Did you water them daily? How much / how many gallons of dirt did you have?

I sit there and spray with a hose for about 5 minutes to fill up the bag of dirt with water and then it starts flowing out the bottom. It sits on a lunch tray like from school or McDonald's. The tray fills up with a bit of water and I know everything has been flowing through and I leave it alone. It doesn't flow much after. The dirt sucks it out. The dirt is acidic and is specially chosen for cannabis or tomato plants.

I put some initial nutrients in and I'll give it another hit in a bit. But I have no idea how much is correct. I used to be able to glance at a cannabis plant until you it was magnesium defient or water heavy or needed a hit of a specific nutrient. I read up for months and years and continuously learned about how to grow cannabis plants. I grew them indoors so I never worried about bugs. I've grown hundreds over the years. It's a matter of education and experience to be able to finally get a grow that is maximum producing.

And now I want to do a couple of tomato plants. A eat a half a dozen baby. Danny Cherry tomatoes a day. Some are the size of cherries but most are much smaller. I see this plant producing and layers. So I water and I pray. It's got its various leaves in decay plus leaves in various stages of growth and decay and I have no idea what I should do or if I should just leave it alone.

So I feed the leaves through the trellis and I water it and I hope I'm doing the right thing.

I look at these plants and realize it's kind of like branches of an organization.

It's my job to grab these plants and feed them through the trellis. I initially pulled them out to me to lay on the trellis and then I feed them back in to make sure they grow the way I want them to.

If I push too hard they will snap and die. They are much more fragile than cannabis plants. Fucking wimpy tomatoes.

Each of them has a series of leaves and branches that obscure the other. Every single one of them wants to kill the other.

It's my job to manage these plants to pull these branches out so their leaves don't keep the other parts of it from getting sun.

Each branch has a possibility of fruiting and I would like to keep my treatment of them equal but occasionally one has a better chance than the other so I snap off the lesser. Every branch wants all the nutrients and all the Sun.

Even a lesser ranch has a chance of capturing sunlight and then focusing nutrients to the roots. When a lesser branch starts to die I figure out if it's worth to leave it for the plant to suck the nutrients out of it (for a while ) or if I should just cut it now before it allows any disease to hit the rest of the plant.

Every decision to let a non-profitable organization to survive for a few weeks or months or years more is just like this.

This is just how you manage an organization of people competing in a marketplace that has multiple divisions. It all makes perfect sense. Dino and me me, me and whatever other asshole I was competing with, it all makes perfect sense.

Final comment.

I just did a quick rearrangement/feed through one branch of the tomato plant by the trellis. When I was outside I noticed an enormous amount of tomato plant smell. Just by me touching and moving it. This was destructive. This caused various pieces of the tomato plant to be upset and when touched expel chemicals that I can sense.

Then when I went inside I noticed my environment filled with that incredible screaming level of tomato plant smell. I have a fan that does input/output right by where the tomato plant is and therefore it filled my living room with the smell.

I assume most constructive building causes some destruction.

I expect a small chunk of it when you do it. This is my idea.

It is still the wild west out here.

And it will probably be that way for quite a while. Patch work laws regulating it occasionally at the township or county level.

But we are in the serious sticks and we get pissed when anyone tells us what we can do with our land and that especially means whether or not we can rent out a chunk of a house.

So you will get occasional cities that regulate it because they found it a problem.

When I hear that term, it's often in related to Great Britain busy bodies. Local council tells you you can't do something, news at 11:00.

I suspect you have a baseline of rules that you try to apply. But your actual core of what you think you should be able to get away with doesn't scratch the surface of the American attitude.

So out here it is really specific to a 50 square mile area. Maybe it's a major city. Maybe it's a strip of Beach countryside that goes for 20 mi and is only 2 mi wide. It could be millions of residents or it could be a few thousand.

In each case it is local residents who get together and vote. Sometimes we are a bunch of people in the sticks like me here who have one-on-one relationships with the people actually on the city council doing the voting. And sometimes it's 50,000 to one. And in the one-to-one situations like around here there ain't nobody coming in to tell you what to do.

But then in a tiny little resort town 20 mi from me they simply limit a single household to a single rental unit ownership. You can't get more than a single license to rent a room if you have more than one property or more than one living space in your house so you can split it up a bit and share it.

This was claimed to be because they didn't like the fact that there are homeless people on the streets, that there are people renting their places and not working with the government to accept some type of subsidized housing voucher for these people.

I am talking a tiny resort town. That is dead half the year. I am talking maybe 3 mi long and 1 mi wide at the widest. And also keep in mind we are not in the sunny South. We are Northern latitudes and the winter can be a bit harsh. We're not a place where people can just be hanging out outside all year round and thinking they will just survive.

For 3 months (the tourist season) someone can rent out a room that allows them to live in their house the entire year. Because we can overcharge the tourists. That also means we can have 9 months of quiet in our house without dealing with being a landlord to a crappy tenant. And if you don't think government subsidized tenants aren't high probability crappy tenants, then I just have nothing to say to you. These people need live in social workers, not landlords. It only takes one crappy tenant in the same house you are living to destroy your life. No one does that if they don't have to.

It can take years of trying to kick someone out if they know how to juggle the legal system. Years and hundreds of thousands of dollars. I will never rent to a real tenant. If they can get their mail here then they can't live here.

According to this license setup, a person with a large house cannot rent out to rooms to two roommates. That would be illegal according to this type of licensing scheme.

And I'm pretty sure the local motel owners are pushing that type of legislation because they don't want the competition.

Before that bit of legislation showed up they attempted to just turn off all personal rentals until they "studied" the problem out. Which would screw everybody who depended on that bit of income. So then they made it the one-to-one correspondence of single rental per owner license.

You can be sure that license doesn't carry the same burden as a real hotel or motel.

If that limitation ever spreads to me, I won't care. I only have the bottom half of my house.
