I sure agree with your thoughts.
My wife's and mine best lifetime friends are Jewish. They were not overly religious and we went to 3 of their 4 son's bar mitzvahs and 3 of their sons weddings. Unfortunately, the guy got depressed and committed suicide 10 years ago. Israel's treatment of invaded West Bank Palestine is wrong. Religion based conflicts are simply evil. There has to be a safety zone
At this point I see a DMZ like North and South Korea. A shitload of land mines but at this point the strip is not wide enough. So they have to get rid of it. I agree that the Israeli treatment of the Palestinian refugees sucks. What would you have them do? 50 years ago they said kill the all the Jews and the Jews responded. No. They went from 80,000 people to two and a 1/2 million people in a six mile wide by 125 mile high strip. There is absolutely nothing to do with these people, either then shut them out (which means death and starvation) or bomb the f*** out of them. Let Iran take them as refugees. As you say, a DMZ won't work.
The only thing that will work is a serious peace. I'm reminded of the 1973 war. Sadat attacked to get Israel's attention; a few years later there was a peace treaty.
