Well, the food part is sorta true (obv hyperbole for lulz, though), but as someone in the comments notes, these places might look a bit scruffy, but they’re usually clean and practice good food hygiene standards.

A lot of them live and die by reviews on sites like FoodHub and Just Eat (i think DoorDash is a US equivalent service), so if they start giving people the shits, they’re literally going out of business.

If your business serves food or drink, you have to be inspected by the local council and they give you a score out of 5, and you have to display this prominently in your premises, and it goes on the website:
