New New laptop, who dis?
I haven't supported Windows for a while. (Linux personal desktop, Windows work laptop managed by them.) So what's the current hotness for anti-virus for the lapper, and ad blocking on Chrome browser?

New Ad blocking on Chrome is up in the air
https://www.theregister.com/2022/09/08/ad_blockers_chrome_manifest_v3/
But this "permission-less" approach means the extension cannot carry out operations supported by uBlock Origin, such as custom JavaScript injection or filtering of redirects, CSP (content security policy) directives, URL parameters, and cosmetic page elements.

The extensions still exist but their abilities will be severely curtailed. Manifest v3 goes into effect next month. (FF will follow Manifest v3 for compatibility but will maintain support for the blocking API.)

The last AV I dealt with as admin was Viper, about 5 years ago. At the time it did what it was supposed to do but it seems to have issues these days with realtime ransomware activity detection (but then I have no idea how the others stack up in that respect.)
New Thanks, going to switch to Firefox

New Interesting.
Since Chrome on Android hasn't allowed adblocking, I suspected it was just a matter of time before Google broke it on desktops. But I haven't been keeping up with this stuff - thanks for the pointer.

I use the Brave browser on my phone most of the time but it's a pain to view web tweets with it (because Elmo is throwing "Sign In!" and "Turn on Notifications!" popups every refresh). :-/ UBO takes care of that nonsense on Winders.

On AV, we have to use McAfee at work. I have no idea how effective it is, but we do what we're told. ;-)

Cheers,
Scott.
New Thanks for the pointer.
New Firefox on Android supports uBlock Origin.
...the best browser ad blocker in existence. Highly recommended.
Ceterum autem censeo pars Republican esse delendam.
New Thanks. Good to see you.
New I'm around intermittently.
Busy life, doesn't leave much time for online stuff. I thought being a stay at home parent would give me more downtime, hahahahahahah*URK*

New My father joked after he retired that he needed a part-time job so he would have some free time.

It’s merely anecdotal, but someone who can severely misconstrue the meaning of “Green Eggs and Ham” has no business being considered smart.
