New Not if you're an English teacher!
Your meaning, however clear is "Wrong!" if it doesn't exactly match the definition in Webster's dictionary - and woe be you if it's marked "obsolescent", never mind "obsolete", and heaven help you if isn't in the dictionary. Webster fossilized the English language for all time - didn't you know that?
New You would enjoy "The Professor and the Madman"
Story of the creation of the Oxford Dictionary. There's some disagreement about some of the side plotlines, but the basics about the book are apparently pretty close, and a fascinating story.
