New What's the yearly value of living next to a harvestable food source?
7/10 of a mile away I can walk to shellfish harvesting year-round. Of course I'd take a three-wheeler bike with a big basket. Should I choose that particular location to live.

This doesn't mean the weather would be agreeable but I could probably handle it 9 months out of the year. Big chest freezers for whatever I can get.

Oysters, clams, mussels. Plus the ability to fish for salmon half the months of the year. Crabs as well but they'd require some real effort. I plan on staying on the beach or the dock.

So what should I be willing to pay for this? My time has no value, and I love to eat seafood. And me going out and getting it is simply good exercise.

Plus on the property itself there's a tiny fresh water river looks to be about 10 to 15 ft across. Far enough that if the banks get overflowed it doesn't scare me, close enough that it's close enough.

While it's probably not legal now when the dark times come fresh water on the property is probably a good idea. At least until an upstream neighbor dams it. Plus I could probably put a turbine in it for our electrical generation.
New Dunno, but depends on how many of you would be eating of it.
Like, having this fill some proportion of one person's dietary needs = $Z ==> X people's needs = X * $Z.

(Your post sounds as if you're talking only about yourself; whahoppen to the fambly?)

New Down to two of us
I can guarantee you I will happily fulfill 50%+ of my protein needs, and so will she. And find excess to throw in the garden compost pile. Along with the ground shells.

This is serious out in the sticks obviously. Nearest hospital is probably an hour and a half away. But I've hit the point in my life that I don't give a s*** about how close the hospital is, I give a s*** about how my daily living is.

New That happened to my brother
Went all gung ho on his fish diet and a couple years later had mercury poisoning. Yeah I'm aware, it'll be in the salmon but not in the shellfish, at least not at accumulated predator levels.

The whole point of my questioning came up when I found out that the house I'm looking at is ridiculously close to one of the only places in the nation that is open for this type of gathering year-round.
New pacific salmon not so much, shellfish can be an issue if west coast geoducks are good too
