Hodges said that about a third of those who have recently tested positive in Hooper Bay are under the age of 12, and half are younger than 18. the article also states only 50% of the eligible population is vaccinated (which includes the group between 12 and 18.) The COVID variant is the UK version (renamed alpha variant after Modi threw a hissy-fit with India being associated with a new strain.) Higher infection rates in young people was also observed in the UK where schools were locked down again when it firs became the dominant strain there.

It was noted that these crew members tested positive after vaccination but before the time span it takes for the vaccination becomes fully effective. It has also been noted that those crew members testing positive after vaccination had very light symptoms or were asymptomatic. I have no info on the others, but the J&J (which I got) is noted for mild symptoms in cases where a vaccinated person contracted COVID. Persons with compromised immune systems are most likely to become seriously infected even though vaccinated, because their immune systems are not up to the task of producing full immunity.
