Welcome to IWETHEY!

New KQED ran 'Pleasantville' this evening.
If young Patty McCormack [ Bad Seed ] gave us a narsty portrait of a young female sociopath, then Pleasantville ['97] was prescient,
even instructional re our very-disowned Mafia-in-Chief Don's parallel route, all demonstrated by the townfolk
and the clever color McGuffin employed.

Alas both warnings went Zooom when most needed (Mary Trump's revelations came way too late) or weren't viewed by enogh to go er, viral.
Two movies--same message, Ignorance KIlls.

(Pleasantville. [1998] is the better portrayal: it's got g r a n u l a r i t y out the Wazoo.
Pity it didn't rival Gone With the Wind for popularity--in about 2016, say?

Carrion ..oft it's in the timing.
New Never saw 'Bad Seed', but yes 'Pleasantville' wasn't the fluff it was marketed as
It trod much the same ground as "Hairspray" but started with a much lighter touch and more nuanced characters - especially William H. Macy.

He was on the wrong side of the issue, but was a genuinely nice guy who thought his wife was as happy as he is. When he finds out she's not he's not angry, just perplexed. But that's not good enough for the mob.

New Nice focus on WHM.
I hadn't made that distinction consciously but it supports the important inference we both got.
Dumbed-down folk (however manufactured) indeed--like DJT as a harbinger--do seem to trend black/white on most issues
(eschewing the actual complexity of ..well, most anything worth discussing). Drumpf Begins! from: punch-im-inna-face!

Agreed, ya just can't Hate WHM's role. Unless yer a nutter--which means you never do look-at yoursel, In-action.
And we are awash with such Ones, each one Certain! of ter farmily-valuez.
Poor US..as this issue of mass psychology leaves us open-ended on the Fate of the whole enchilada ..indefinitely :-/

PS: maybe snag a copy of Bad Seed? Minor spoiler:
as the credits roll at the End, she is shown across her mater's lap--receiving her Spanking!

Carrion ..it has its ups and downs. :-/, :-)

PS: Believe it is a sad accidental tragedy that many more than [local PBS] haven't seen the Obvious need for just
such a masterful allegory as is Pleasantville. KQED Rocks ..fairly often ... Lucky, us locals.
