You need to diffuse or bounce the light
For photography, you'd just point the flash at the ceiling (assuming it's white) and that gives you much more even lighting.
Principle for video is the same - point the light away from the subject, bounce it off a non-mirrored white surface.
Or use a diffuser, which in its simplest form is a piece of frosted polycarbonate.
