Right up there with "The Verger". It's near impossible to read his wry tales without an Aha! in the mix. Isn't it lovely when ..a seeming-Pecksniff silently demonstrates cuth + heart? (The two volumes reside on the unmarked shelf, 'for reading when': 'Murica seems -just now- Irredeemable, via any known process as comes to mind). |
