2019 ford fusion hybrid
no key, one must press the brakes to start the engine. That wont fly from the git go, people watching you will know you started the car.
no gear shift to fondle, a shower style knob with settings.
gutless wonder, cant get out of its own way. My 2017 focus with the 2 litre turbo will kick this cars ass
while driving the steering gets very mushy and an alarm sounds "place both hands on the wheel" They were on the wheel, steering stayed mushy for several miles.
No room in the trunk due to the big ass battery. Mileage same as my focus except I drive my focus at least 20mph faster.
think my 2017 will be the last new car I will ever buy

Sounds like they got a lot wrong.
There's no reason it shouldn't be able to launch off the mark like a scalded cat. My base-model Tesla Model 3 can do that.
Just the other night I finally watched "Who Killed The Electric Car?". It's a bit dated now, but still an awesome piece of history. I had no idea how passionate the devotees to GM's EV1 were. And despite the limited range, they were still powerful cars.

Why do you care that people know you started the car?
Isn't that what *most* people do after getting into a car?

maybe? if you are sitting parked ahead watching a 3rd party and they get in to start theirs
it would be nice to start yours without tipping them off a vehicle is getting ready to roll.

Your criticism of a mass-market car is that it's not optimized for covert surveillance? OK
I'm sure Q branch can disable that.

Yeah, because you used to be Sam Spade when you were younger. Sure.
And even if you were: Now that you aren't any more, lay off the stalker behaviour.

Every slushbox I've ever driven has required a foot on the brake before it will start.

Same with BOxley. He's just gone senile and forgot that.
Or he's just piling on all the "negatives" he can make up because this is an evil snowflake SJW politically correct Millennial quiche-munching sissy car that doesn't Roll Smoke like a Real Man's Six-Ton 0.2-mpg Truck.

Yeah, I can read; I saw that.
But you wish it were (and probably pretend it is) a Real Man's Six-Ton 0.2-mpg Truck that can Roll Smoke.
Or you do drive a Real Man's Six-Ton 0.2-mpg Truck that can Roll Smoke and only pretend to drive a Focus.

No one cares
I've been dealing with various brake to start, or brake to shift, for years. So what? You want a "quiet" car? Get the police package, when you lock or unlock it the alarm system keeps quiet.

here we have a parking/neutral switch that needs to be engaged before the engine will start
so the motor can be started while in either neutral or park and in no other position. That is so if you are driving at 60mph and the motor quits, you can push the gear lever into neutral and attempt to restart the car without having to come to a complete stop. This is important as power steering and power breaks are lost if the motor quits. No need for a foot on the brake at all.
