I watched most of it Wednesday and Thursday night. It was OK I guess, but not really my cup of tea. Maybe it's too subtle or something. I appreciate stories with morals, but with morals which don't hit one over the head. There appeared to be none here.
I can see the not-so subtle slamming of royal privilige, etc., and can see why it might appeal to post-WWII British youth. But it didn't click with me.
The BBC/WGBH production was beautifully presented, and well acted. But the music was deafening when the dialog was loud enough to understand at a 50% level. The old Mr. Phlegm?/Flaim? (... oh Flay!) was very difficult for me to understand, and the Cook was impossible.
Lots of gratuitous gross-out scenes too (e.g. the wild girl grabbing a bird and eating it).
I was disappointed.
I think Terry Gilliam would have done a much better job (I really enjoyed "12 Monkeys").
What did you folks think?
Cheers,
Scott.
