New Once it was amazing; now ... ... also, GMTA :-)
I bought a new Subaru ..maybe '76? Great car; I went for the naturally-balanced flat-four sans the air-cooled problems of VW. Only part I bought (had it ~3 years): was the little rubber seat-belt keep-away; once it had a crankcase to cylinder gasket leak, out-Warranty and fair amount of dismantling; expected to pay a few C-notes then; Subaru comped-it! I paid maybe $50 for incidentals (Have likely 'sold' two or three new Subarus via that story.)

Believe that their Mad-success nowadays began from just such largesse early-on. They Knew how Americans hated the Dealer-scams in sales, thence in any small repair. I wish them Well.

Check out this podcast for a brief history of car dealerships, and why their tactics are currently changing.
