No, we shouldn't be grateful
she would have been such a superior president that the mind boggles at how stupid the orange-haired shitgibbon's base is for not accepting that fact.

Do you accept the fact that my shoes are brown?
You don't know what color they are, and you don't care. And neither one of those facts has any bearing on who you voted for.
Same with "Who would be the best president?" Lots of people don't know, and don't care, but that's not why they voted for him.

perhaps RC forgot the </sarcasm> tag
because if he didn't and really meant what he said, then my response is totally appropriate.

Was referring to his base
They don't support him because he's the best president.

The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

The sarcasm tag was implicit, I’d hoped
It was not aimed at mmoffitt or any individual here.

I'm disappointed.
You rarely miss an opportunity to reiterate that my lack of support for Hillary in 2016 in part caused this menace. A "fact" I do not accept, btw.

I will repeat, mmoffitt
…that despite our sundry long-standing differences on many of the issues of the day, I respect you as an honest interlocutor with whom I actually share a number of stances. While I feel that your principled abstention from the resistance to Trump’s election formed a part, however infinitesimal, of the trends that have brought us to this disaster, I do not assert that you “caused” this.
I trust that as we approach the next election cycle we can agree that even if the alternative put up against Trump is a “corporatist Democrat,” this will be preferable to Trump, that “heightening the contradictions” can wait for another time, and that we will each contribute our mite to preventing the greater evil from prevailing.
cordially,
