Here are among the reasons why the UK is a more pleasant place.
Do you believe in God or a higher spiritual power? US: 87% UK: 28% Church Membership US: 55% UK: 10% Most damning Survey Question Do you believe that religion can answer all or most of today's problems, or that religion is largely old-fashioned and out of date? "Can answer" response percentages US: 57% UK: 19% Sources: https://faithsurvey.co.uk/uk-christianity.html http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/belief-in-god/ http://news.gallup.com/poll/1690/religion.aspx http://news.gallup.com/poll/171998/majority-says-religion-answer-today-problems.aspx https://humanism.org.uk/campaigns/religion-and-belief-some-surveys-and-statistics/ The accuracy of these percentages can of course be questioned. But what I believe is fair to say is that Muricans are "at least twice as religious as Brits" in the most damnable, corrupted sense of that word. bcnu, Mikem It's mourning in America again. |

It's not just snark when they say...
...that the Church of England is the church for Christians who don't believe in God. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=church+of+england+for+people+who+don%27t+believe+in+god&oq=church+of+england+for+people+who+don%27t+believe+in+god&aqs=chrome..69i57.9987j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 |

That's all well and good. But I'm unconvinced that "going to church" isn't in and of itself evil.
It's certainly tribal. But I'll yield on the point that in the absence of any sense of "Godliness" the danger of church attendance is significantly reduced. (Mind: in the UK from one of the above sources, only about 5% of Brits attend church regularly compared to about 40% in the US) bcnu, Mikem It's mourning in America again. |
