New “The Orville” (a commendation rather than a review)
It’s not my custom to watch open-ended episodic television series, but after catching online previews of “The Orville,” a Treklike sci-fi spoof, I tuned in last night, and while it was amusing, and with decent production values, I don’t see myself setting Sunday evenings aside for it. I have to single out one point for praise, however: in Act IV, during the climactic confrontation with the Bad Alien spaceship, our heroes prevail by means of a strategem that the writers have very meticulously laid the ground for. I mean, OK, the genre requires of us a willing suspension of disbelief, beginning with FTL travel, but given that, the setup was put together with a logical consistency and attention to detail that one doesn’t often see in popular entertainment.

cordially,
New Oh crap, I forgot that was on
Time to go set the DVR.

New Agreed.
I enjoyed it very much. Great visuals, good acting, and being respectful of the tropes while having fun with them too.

I especially liked the initial crew interview. :-D

Cheers,
Scott.
New If you like Star Trek, you might as well watch Star Trek
It's pretty much the exact same thing from what I heard.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Not really.
It's worth a watch to make up your own mind. :-)

(Star Trek was "Wagon Train to the Stars" after all.)

Cheers,
Scott.
New yabbut saved a buttonne of licencing fees I would bet

New Interesting that ST people have directed some eps.
New Just caught the first ... Not what I expected
The advertising makes it look like a broad spoof like Airplane. Turns out every joke in the episode was in the commercial.

New I might actually watch it now.
I recall the trailer felt like it was a sitcom.

Wade.
