Kiril Ouspensky was a very good friend of my father's. I hope I can locate the one photograph of him that I can remember. He was sentenced by a court in the USSR to 10 years in Siberia. Remarkably, he survived. His crime? He was convicted of "Claiming there is no freedom of speech in the Soviet Union." He probably got the harshest sentence by saying to the judge at trial, "Comrade Judge. Is the irony of the charge against me lost on you?" His conviction and sentence was the response.

I've seen the end of the road we have embarked upon firsthand.
