New Well, that argument is over.
A deposit of amber has been found with a dinosaur tail embeded, complete with bones, flesh, skin and feathers.

The feathers weren't flight feathers, but similar to those on a Silkie chicken. On the other hand, attachment points on the arm bones of related Velociraptor were definitely for flight feathers. It couldn't fly, but those wing feathers made it a very effective predator, able to maneuver exceptionally sharply and run up slopes too steep for most prey.
New Yep, it's a fortuitous find!
Alex

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New there is a reason that chicken tastes like alligator
always look out for number one and don't step in number two
New Actually, alligator tastes more like a chicken . . .
. . who's mama had been messing around with a fish.

On the other hand, alligators and birds are Archosauria, so are much much more closely related to each other than to the more reptilian classes.

Much is still very unclear about all these relationships, but, fortunately we are not involved with that mess, because we are Synapsids, and they are all Diapsids.
