@Miss Bianca: On the physics Usenet newsgroups back in the 1990s, there sometimes appeared a man named Alexander Abian, who was an elderly professor emeritus of mathematics in Iowa. Anyway, this man had many odd beliefs, and chief among them was that he insisted we must blow up the Moon. (At one point he made the cover of the Weekly World News for stating this.)

When asked why it was necessary to blow up the Moon, he said that we needed to do it to “shake up the present decadent cosmic setup”. The cosmic setup as it existed involved terrible misery, poverty and war and diseases such as AIDS and herpes. Blowing up the Moon would somehow disturb it in such a way as to produce a better world.

People who want to elect Donald Trump to shake things up remind me of this man.

Yikes!

Cheers,
Scott.
New Several engineers were proposing blowing up the moon . . .
. . to stop troublesome tides and such, but actually because they though it could be done and would be cool to do it.

Real physicists know that it is the influence of the moon that keeps the earth spinning upright, rather than in football mode like other planets.
New I bet those reasons explain half of scientific advancement
