Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Another one for Peter.
Petapixel

If your mantra in life is “bigger is better,” then here’s a lens for you. Over in Ukraine, someone is selling a gigantic lens from a Soviet spy satellite on the country’s “craigslist”.

USSRPhoto reports that the lens was once used by the Soviets on the Yantar 4K2 satellite, mounted to a Zhemchug-18 film camera to photograph sites of interest down on Earth.

The pictures of the lens are dated 2005, but there you are.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Cheap at twice the price! :)
Alex

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New How would they get it back down?
That would have to be expensive. Why would they spend the money for that?

Drew
New Presumably they made multiple copies.
E.g. Kodak's Hubble backup mirror.

Cheers,
Scott.
New He may mean the film.
Siberia and Central Asia are a pretty big target for reentry, and the Russians are pretty good at "splashdown" on solid ground.
New Ah. Presumably the same way the US did.
New Eh, big tripod and collar mount - job's a buck.
Adapter ring will be a challenge, mind.
