A woman has been arrested in Riverside for smoking marijuana while parked in a designated “police unit parking only” lot behind the west suburb’s police station.
The 21-year-old Chicago woman was in a car parked Monday morning in a spot marked “police parking only” directly behind the station at 31 N. Riverside Rd., according to the police, waiting for a friend who was inside to recover a vehicle towed after a DUI arrest Saturday.
An officer saw the woman sitting in the driver’s seat with a window down and smelled marijuana coming from inside and asked her if that’s what it was, according to the police, who said she told the cop, yes, it was.
The officer seized a yellow container that tested positive for cannabis and also removed other drug paraphernalia containing marijuana and ticketed the woman for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper parking, all fine-only violations.
