FWIW, I abandoned my WA house when it was under water.
My marriage fell apart, needed to liquidate the house only to find it was worth half what we paid for it and it was impossible to get Chase to refi (they simply refused to talk to us).
That was pretty much about half my life savings. I rent now because my kids (my GF has a daughter same age as mine and they are best buddies) will be on their own in 3.5 years and when they are, I'm splitting the USA to sail my boat across oceans - probably never to return.
