New What - no yammering over the Democratic Party Debate?
Bernie looks like my guy this time around.

And it was truly striking how different the tone was (talking issues instead of who hates whose face) vs the GOP freakshow.
New Re: What - no yammering over the Democratic Party Debate?
(That you, Todd?) OK, my brief yammer (having caught a re-run of the comments of the only two attempting to say something of any substance.) Which was Something! given the clown-posse antagonists dedicated to keeping governance at full-STOP ... until they're tazered out of their sinecures.

{{sigh}} Recall how everyone--watching the ascending BHO, over those few years--worried that such intelligence (say..) just couldn't ever overcome the national brain-deadness and become Prez?
Then, some-how (maybe via more distributed desperation than was realized by the naysayers?) He got in, (as we all held breath that it wasn't all just virtuoso-bloviation.) Years next before the +/-s get sorted.

So then, Clearly Bernie groks to fullness the fact of Murican 'socialism' for the rich/vulture capitalism for the masses. Hillary still postulates 'faith' that this anti-democratic oligarchy can be controlled, reformed {play Zarathustra chords} ... with no root reforms either contemplated or deemed necessary. How brain-dead shall the 2016 electorate (actually voting) prove to be?

Mere contemplation of the "dis-U.S.A." would send Pollyanna into the screaming-meemies.
We ceased being a Contender so long ago that: depression death-rates are accelerating. Coincidence?
Nothing surprises next. Anything laudable shall occur via the sheer- 'Law of Accident', I wot.
New Re: What - no yammering over the Democratic Party Debate?
Yep - is me.

Good thing I had a really old ID in my keychain - the new user button is still broken. I guess you never want to meet anyone new ever again?

Lots changed - I got divorced, run my own business, moved to San Diego, met amazing woman with girl same age as mine - they are now bestest buddies which is cool, and I live by the beach in North County SD with GF, her daughter 1/2 time, an older conservative roomie (Mike) who lives by the Mexican border in AZ but works for the military on base so he lives with us during the week and goes home every other weekend and holidays. My daughter lives with her mom in WA but visits often.

We all watched the GOP debates and the Dembates and we all thought the GOP was a stupid food fight farce while we were surprised how substantive the Dems were.

The one theme I'm seeing is people are fed up with machine politics on both sides - hence Trump and Sanders. Trump is the GOP's worst nightmare so - go Trump. He will likely wreck that party.

Sanders's straight talk and focus on the middle class has my Arizona Republican roomie taking notice and is, I think, probably going to vote for him if he can get the nomination.

Hillary is just a vote for the status quo. Nobody who works for a living is happy with the status quo.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New I see
Threading seems a bit wonky too.
New Welcome back, stranger. :-)
It's been a busy week at work, so I haven't had much time for posting.

The debate was good and bad, IMO. Anderson Cooper was doing his best to turn it into a food fight, but nobody was biting.

Here's hoping that Webb and Chafee drop out before the next one, so there's more time for details of their proposals.

Cheers,
Scott.
New I KILT A MAN IN 'NAM.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New I could see the gears turning before he answered...
I think he was wanting to have an answer that would get people talking. He certainly did that. ;-)

It was a humble-brag about his Navy Cross:

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to First Lieutenant James H. Webb, Jr. (MCSN: 0-106180), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving as a Platoon Commander with Company D, First Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), Fleet Marine Force, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 10 July 1969, while participating in a company-sized search and destroy operation deep in hostile territory, First Lieutenant Webb's platoon discovered a well-camouflaged bunker complex which appeared to be unoccupied. Deploying his men into defensive positions, First Lieutenant Webb was advancing to the first bunker when three enemy soldiers armed with hand grenades jumped out. Reacting instantly, he grabbed the closest man and, brandishing his .45 caliber pistol at the others, apprehended all three of the soldiers. Accompanied by one of his men, he then approached the second bunker and called for the enemy to surrender. When the hostile soldiers failed to answer him and threw a grenade which detonated dangerously close to him, First Lieutenant Webb detonated a claymore mine in the bunker aperture, accounting for two enemy casualties and disclosing the entrance to a tunnel. Despite the smoke and debris from the explosion and the possibility of enemy soldiers hiding in the tunnel, he then conducted a thorough search which yielded several items of equipment and numerous documents containing valuable intelligence data. Continuing the assault, he approached a third bunker and was preparing to fire into it when the enemy threw another grenade. Observing the grenade land dangerously close to his companion, First Lieutenant Webb simultaneously fired his weapon at the enemy, pushed the Marine away from the grenade, and shielded him from the explosion with his own body. Although sustaining painful fragmentation wounds from the explosion, he managed to throw a grenade into the aperture and completely destroy the remaining bunker. By his courage, aggressive leadership, and selfless devotion to duty, First Lieutenant Webb upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.

He's a tough and brave man. Don't think he'd make a good President though. ;-)

Cheers,
Scott.
New I've given Bernie some money.
I think he's tilting at windmills, though. But, he has already garnered more support than I thought he would, especially among the young. That's his biggest liability, I think. Could be McGovern all over again (kids turn out for primaries, but not national elections).

If Hillary is the nominee, I hope Trump is the clown party nominee because I'd like the opportunity to vote for a Republican for president for the first time in my life.

Welcome back, btw. ;0)

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
