One of the books I have to that effect includes a decent section on how different Englishes have emerged in different places in the world. UK vs US is a sane example, as is either of those with Oz, NZ, Canada or anywhere else where English is the first language. Contrast with the English in India, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, Germany (!) - anywhere where English is not a region's first language. Wade. Seems just as reasonable to me to say that if some dumb Texan doesn't understand Indian English, then it's the Texan who is at fault; then he doesn't really understand English. That is, Texan arrogance is to US arrogance what US arrogance is to the rest of the world.
