I'm not condoning any cheating, but if the rules are such that each team's offense is responsible for its balls, then the rules are stupid because they invite "cheating" and charges of "cheating". The league should supply standard balls, and the officials should be responsible for them. Does baseball allow each pitcher to supply his own balls? :-p
It's yet another example of the stupidity of professional football.

At least one official touches the football on every play, yet none seemed to notice until halftime. The Patriots led, 17-7, at intermission, and outscored the Colts, 28-0, after the officials seemingly corrected the ball issue.
