I wanted to get a Mountie hat in Quebec, but J said no.
I forgot to bring my cowboy hat, or my black We went to a little hat shop in Montreal and they had some neat ones, but they were generally way too spendy. I liked their Mountie hat (nice big brim) but it was lined with nylon or silk and would have been really hot. :-( Plus, J said "No!!!!1 You're not getting that!!!1" My hair gets too curly and flippy to protect my neck from the sun. A mullet wouldn't work. ;-) I usually just end up wearing a hat with a brim and a thin long-sleeve overshirt (with a collar). Good luck! Cheers, Scott. |

You can't beat a Tilley Endurables hat.
Like one of these. Pricey, but campers love them. Made in Canada. Worn properly, the wind won't take them away. Mine's been to Alaska, Newfoundland, and Ukraine (including Crimea). Was tempted by one when we were in Quebec.
Very well made, nice features, great warranty. But I thought the brim was a little small for use as a sun-protection hat while hiking. :-( Cheers, Scott. |

These are nylon.
Or Nylamtium®, as they jokingly call it. Tilley Airflow, The only flaw is that brass grommets do tarnish and stain the cord. And the LRPD says: "As Ashton noted, it's a good one." Me gots..
one of these. But coarser weave than shown; air flows through; if it's Earth 2020-HOT: can douse the sucker with water periodically--evap. cooler. It's light/not crushable-for-pocket like the kepi, though. (Offers some protection, if you're trying to play the cornet at a gathering ... and they're throwing [small] tomatoes? bonus.) Have seen versions with tiny fan--now solar-powered, of course |

Zooks! I thought pith helmets were plastic or something.
Educational linky. And the store linked there looks pretty good too. Thanks. Cheers, Scott. |

it works, heat transfer from head to grass via water
change as necessary. The greass is just a medium, wet rags would work as well. Wet rags kept on ice would work even better.
