New How did I overlook firstmonday.org?
Am I just a clueless idiot?

I followed a link from slashdot about [link|http://www.firstmonday.org/issues/issue6_9/scott/|Copyright], realized that they published another [link|http://www.firstmonday.org/issues/issue6_2/odlyzko/index.html|long-standing favorite] and so I went to their list of [link|http://www.firstmonday.org/best.html|high points].

Sheesh. Where will I ever find the time to catch up on all of the reading I clearly have in front of me? Particularly since these articles while excellent tend to be rather long?

Cheers,
Ben

Edit: Slightly obscured the evidence of idiocy that CRConrad noticed. The cause of said idiocy was switching operating systems and forgetting that cut and paste on a Mac doesn't act like it does on Linux...

New Nice: Your different links aren't all the same any more.
[Edit: Obviously.]

(Yeah, remove the evidence... [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/history?contentid=39355|as best you can!] :-)

New Digital diploma mills - my fav so far..
[link|http://www.firstmonday.org/issues/issue3_1/noble/|Gaudeamus Igitur: Machiavelli \ufffdber alles]

The major change to befall the universities over the last two decades has been the identification of the campus as a significant site of capital accumulation, a change in social perception which has resulted in the systematic conversion of intellectual activity into intellectual capital and, hence, intellectual property. There have been two general phases of this transformation. The first, which began twenty years ago and is still underway, entailed the commoditization of the research function of the university, transforming scientific and engineering knowledge into commercially viable proprietary products that could be owned and bought and sold in the market. The second, which we are now witnessing, entails the commoditization of the educational function of the university, transforming courses into courseware, the activity of instruction itself into commercially viable proprietary products that can be owned and bought and sold in the market. In the first phase the universities became the site of production and sale of patents and exclusive licenses. In the second, they are becoming the site of production of - as well as the chief market for - copyrighted videos, courseware, CD-ROMs, and Web sites.
Once again IMnsHO, Billy n'Bally have symbolized the Gold-standard for EZ-money accumulation - if only: that is virtually your sole goal in life, and you will employ any means you can get away with. See their shining example, boys n'girls - and do not omit noticing their also Hero status in our culture.. If the trend outlined is uninterrupted next, and by significant and sustained critique and pressures for reform, from many interested quarters:

Maybe most 2010 University Catalogs will say simply:

Marketing Prerequisites

\ufffd Course 1
\ufffd Course 2

...
\ufffd Course n

Marketing

\ufffd Course 1
\ufffd Course 2
...
\ufffd Course n

Marketing Postgraduate

\ufffd See University CIEIO for details

(OK - somewhat silly - but no longer utterly unthinkable, is it?)

Curse you Tilly - when you come up with quality AND quantity! :-(
New I won't call favorites yet
I haven't had time to read them. :-)

Cheers,
Ben
