Slight difference
"Niggardly" is a little-used, almost archaic term with multiple good synonyms, and the guy using it was in a position where he should have been hyper-sensitive to appearances. "Homonym" is the only word for that. It was used in the context of *defining* that very word. And the guy who pitched a fit because he had to look it up owns a company dedicated to teaching language skills. -- Drew |
