The 4'x12'x1' garden bed we had for previous 4 years.
First year, chucked full of herbs and peppers and tomato, all heirloom-vintage-traditional varieties... all tasty and so on.
Second year, she bought pre-sprouted plants and kind of gave up half way through the year for the small stuffs.
3rd year, my Mom got 5 "guaranteed" Tomato plants. Dead by Mid July... no fruits yielded.
Last year she didn't even get the Tomato plants. In the 4 years, I got all of about 10 Tomato and Cheese Panini sandwiches. She never used the peppers or other things, because they tasted different.
This year, she didn't even go looking for plants, but did go get flowers... to early and they got hard frost burned this year.
Go figure.
So, make sure you give her all the support she needs and none of that British "Give it a go" stuff... just do it, be all enthusiastic...
