I got in a silly conversation with colleagues the other day about languages. Mostly this was one colleague who began using pseudo-Java to make another colleague do stuff. Then someone posted something horrible in Perl; someone else mentioned Brainfuck - and for some reason I remembered I knew Smalltalk syntax.
I've always been interested in Smalltalk ever since I chanced across "A Little Smalltalk" by Timothy Budd. But for a long time it was not a language easy to use in MS-DOS.
Now I know about Squeak. Downloaded and installed a copy the other day. Eh... I know it's capable, but it doesn't look like it. :-/ And then this morning I discovered Pharo. Like Squeak, Pharo is also based on Smalltalk-80, but has a somewhat more modern UI. And a built-in tutorial. Squeak's is a PDF (and throws you into the class browser very early).
Anyone else used it?
Wade.
