Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Graduated :)
My wife graduated from College this past weekend!! She's now the proud owner of a BS in Psychology (OH the IRONY!!) and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.89 GPA (I'm not proud of her or nuthin...;-)) She starts her Master's in January.

New Yeah!
Pass on my congratulations.
K-mart. The company that beat Microsoft in customer satisfaction.
New Out-freaking-standing
So now we can ask her to drop in here for some free analysis, right?

New Riiiiight - she might need . .
. . material for an AbPsy masters thesis.

New She's got plenty
She married me.. :)

And, thanks guys :)

New My wife does that next week
I will no longer be married to a student. It has only been what, a dozen years?

The downside is that I get evicted from student housing. But that is OK. The next place is already selected. However to get excited about a small 1 bedroom in a brownstone in the Kips Bay area of Manhattan for $2100, well you need to know NY.

That is about par for a small 1 bedroom not in a brownstone. In one? Well we were quoted an entry price of $3000 for a brownstone - any brownstone - in the area...

Cheers,
Ben

New Congrats to her (and you!) as well :)
and OY on the housing! 2 bdrm apts around here were in the 1000-1500 range, but things seem to have cooled off a bit. I'm seeing lots of "move-in special" banners on apt complexes lately, and I heard on the radio the other day that vacancies are on the rise.

New Erm, things *have* cooled off here a bit
Housing prices have dropped about 10% since 9/11.

The apartments haven't gotten larger though. :-(

But there is one thing I will admit. Elsewhere the world simply isn't as walkable as NYC. Within a 5 minute stroll I will have a Starbucks, Borders, movie theater, choice of pharmacies, choice of (small) supermarkets, choice of fitness clubs, and several decent bars, delis, restaurants, etc.

Now back to your wife, good luck on her graduate work, and may she stop at a reasonable number of degrees! :-)

Cheers,
Ben

New Come to Philly
The apartments are much bigger and you can still accomplish the same things by walking. You can walk across Center City on the diagonal in 30 minutes.

But...I will grant you that its nowhere near as exciting as "the City".

New Nowhere near the density
Suppose that I am lazy and only want a 2 minute walk? Well obviously I lose some options. Like the choice of supermarkets, several out of all of the things I had several of, but for all but bars I still have several left.. And it becomes worthwhile to mention a liquor store, drycleaners, and choice of grocers.

The density of options is tied to the population density. There are all of these stores, restaurants, etc because there are enough people for them within an easy walk. There are enough people because the people have taken to modelling for sardines.

Given my druthers, I wouldn't be in NYC. But if I am going to be here, I might as well get the maximum convenience...

Cheers,
Ben

New Re: Nowhere near the density
Oh, I dunno. With Bill in Philly, I'd say things'd be pretty dense.

/me runs away.

InThane - Now running Ashton rev 2.0
New "Now running Ashton rev 2"?
That sounds like a story. Of course, I should finish checking the rest of IWETHEY's unread messages first...

Wade, who has just spent a nice long long weekend in Melbourne.

what form of Inthanity is intended..

Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle.. Cackle..

PS - welcome back from Holiday (?)
You haven't missed any decent wrangles on The Pseudonymous Works of Kirkeg\ufffdrd though ;-)

New Inthanity indeed...
After all, he has been InThane(san) for quite a while. :-)

The holiday was nice. Got to see a few things in and around Melbourne that I hadn't the last few times I was there, like the famous Penguin Parade on Phillip Island. Would've liked a day or so after returning before going back to work, but you can't have everything.

Wade.

New Superb! Congratulations to the scholar!
