. . threatens to follow the "industrial trans fats are far better for you than natural fats" theory, and several other recent certainties of modern medical [knowledge | quackery].

Warning: I haven't studied this issue in depth - but various things I've picked up scanning health stuff seems to indicate statins belong more to the problem set than the solution set - but they are outragiously profitable to a certain industry - so knowing the truth is not easy.

Severe caution seems to be the order of the day.

Incidentally, since your brain is made largely of cholesterol, you don't want to eliminate it too severely :)
New David Gillespie thinks so, too.
Statins fix a symptom which isn't actually a problem if you're eating properly. Gillespie champions sticking with saturated fats and avoiding sugar. Especially since that's the only way he lost excess weight and improved his health considerably.
