New Printing from WinXP to Mac OS 8.x
I've got a remote user who wants to be able to print from her Windows system to a Mac box with a locally attached printer, elsewhere on her network.

What's required to do this? Pointers for a reference would be appreciated, I don't know the first place to start.

What part of "gestalt" don't you understand?

New Possibility

Install DAVE (From Thursby Software) on the Mac. It allows the Mac to act as a Windows client and, among other things, share out printers to other Windows clients. I believe they have a downloadable demo.

ObDisclaimer: I've only used DAVE to mount Windows shares and print to Windows printers but it worked well for that. The manual states you can also serve shares and printers.

New Alternative - Epson/HP printer that supports PCs and Macs.
That's what I've got at home - an Epson CS800 with PC and Mac support. DAVE is about $140. If her Mac has USB support, the Epson C60 is $79 from Epson, the C80 is $149, and both support MacOS 8.5.1 - 9.1 (and Windows).

HTH.

Cheers,
Scott.

Worst case, tell your boss it's a new kind of ultra-XML -- not quite invisible, but only very sophisticated and intelligent people can see it...
