A Ponderance Of Words
It seems as though in this day and age
our world's rewritten every page
of what had been proper, good and right,
to let some silly tweets take flight.
And English is now a forgotten word,
one that oft is barely heard
as spoken words are replaced by text,
it makes one shudder, just what is next?
And privacy now, is rarely found,
instead the details would astound
those scholars of our more private past,
Such as tweeting you just wiped your ass.
What happened to the art we knew,
of conversation between me and you?
When did words become abbreviations
that are shared across all nations?
Why is Facebook the new hangout
Where people laugh and cry and shout
the details of their boring lives?
I'm amazed that language still survives!
What happened to the sentence structure,
I'm afraid it's all been ruptured,
as grammar's become obsolete
due to limited characters in a tweet.
I'm glad I haven't joined them all
Posting my life upon the "wall"
Letting them know when I eat and drink,
Or what I feel or what I think.
Nope, Facebook and Twitter, are not for me
I'll just stick with my Hollow Tree.
And even that can not compare
to the deluge of words to be found out there.
So I'm content to pick up a pen,
And open my notebook, once again,
To write on the pages with actual ink
The things I feel and the things I think.
And I leave the screen and the mouse behind,
and dream that maybe the world will find,
that the art of language is not yet dead,
for there are words out there just waiting to be read.
