New Canon
I just picked up a Canon T2I(550D) with an Canon EF-S 18-55 IS II lens and a Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS lens for $930. all new

I have been glancing at the new 700D - http://www.dpreview....os-700d-rebel-t5i (around $750 body only) - but I really want a full-frame sensor (having waited this long, what's another year or two)? Have fun with it! Cheers, Scott. |

That's my steed
You mean 18-55, right? That's the standard kit lens, and it's a good one. Can't comment on the Sigma lens, although it reviews well on Amazon and elsewhere.
Do yourself a favour - get a good fast prime, ideally the 40mm pancake. I've got the 50mm f/1.8 and whilst it's a remarkably good lens for the money (not much, about seventy nicker) on a crop body it's a bit long for candids in a social setting. OTOH, it's a great lens for candids in a social setting because you don't have to get too close to people, thus preventing some of the "oh a camera i must gurn for it" stuff. Also, get a tripod - Ken Rockwell says you don't need one, and most of the time he's right, but the high ISO performance of the 550D isn't particularly stellar, so a tripod it is. Don't spend more than $50-60 at this point. I've got a cheap and cheerful Manfrotto which is light, stable and has a nifty universal adjustment thingamabob. It's not very strong, but it cost buttons and it folds up very small. http://www.amazon.co...ack/dp/B004MKNJ84 Anyway, gear's boring. Take pictures! |

You probably don't need the batteries and grip
I shoot all day on a single charge; it's a big battery in the 550D.
Unless you're going to shoot literally hundreds of exposures, that is, or flog the built-in flash to death. The display film, what's that all about? Just wipe it on your shirt like a professional does. |

Re: You probably don't need the batteries and grip
I had the grip on the 500D
I like the bigger grip you get with it back in the day when I used film and had the Nikon FA I had the speed grip just used to the bigger grip the batteries are higher Mila amps and with 2 you can shoot a lot more the last one I had I only had to recharge the batteries every 3 months "Pictures are better then words because some words are big and hard to understand"
