New Finally, a limit
http://www.dispatch....e-no-cameras.html
A southwestern Ohio judge yesterday ordered a halt to a speeding-ticket blitz in a village that installed traffic cameras, saying it’s “a scam” against motorists.

Here's the amazing part:
The village began using the cameras in September, resulting in 6,600 speeding citations in the first month, triple the number of village residents.

...

Police say up to 18,000 vehicles a day drive through the village, which links some big employers with I-75.

So about 1 in 3 cars that go through the town got ticketed in the first month.

New Make an assumption
That area is busy because it connects to local employers. That means ~15,000 of those 18,000 daily drivers are commuters. If you were one of them, you had about a 1-in-3 chance of getting popped.

New 18000 cars per DAY. 6600 tickets per MONTH.
Sorry.

New Yes, read my assumption
Mostly THE SAME 18,000 cars every day. And 6,600 of them got tickets.

New And - as usual . . .
The truth is probably somewhere in between.
New Re: Finally, a limit
I have a strange relationship to speed limits and speeding.

On the one hand, I detest nearly all mandatory limits. I make exceptions for some urban and residential areas, and variable mandatory limits on motorways to manage congestion.

On the other, I have zero sympathy for any driver that gets nicked for speeding. Didn't see the camera/police? Observation inadequate. Didn't know the limit for the road you're on? Oh, please.

So, in summary, fuck this judge, cuz he's enabling shit drivers.
