New What do we think of CURL?
New language for web development - requires a plugin - if they release plugins fast enough for all machines I think I like it. The designer definitely has a LISP background I think.

So far its kinda fun. Only a couple egregious errors in language design - no class side inheritance and static typing.
New Looks interesting...
...the language is definitely rooted in Lisp. I've been meaning to [link|http://lambda.weblogs.com/discuss/msgReader$1101|play with it] for a while, but a couple of job transitions have prevented me from getting far.

I definitely could use much better control over forms than I now have with html or dhtml. Most of the standards push these days is geared towards presentation or server side processing. Curl seems to be the only thing happening of any substance on the client side browser.
New Have you played with DOM yet?

New For presentation, yes...
DOM and JavaScript are ok for getting dynamically adjustable content on the client side. But it's still hard to build up the pieces of the forms from the primitives and the client side validation still is hard to build up systematically. DOM doesn't introduce any new form elements, though it does make them a little more flexible.
New Looked at it
But its not the same as having a great graphics library and widget set at your disposal. For instance, could you write a UML modeling tool using DOM? I think it would be pretty hard.
New I think why bother?
Why sell the cow when you can sell the milk by the squeeze?

Our license agreement includes a standard fee and allows for volume-based usage discounts. Non-commercial users can deploy Curl content at no charge.

I remember actually seeing the price somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. It was quite expensive IIRC.

New If it has decent database access capability
Which I don't see yet, but if they have a clue then its coming, then you'd have a round trip client server solution deployable through a web browser which only requires developers to learn a single technology instead of the umpteen little skills you need now to do a dynamic website. Plus, you can build APPLICATIONS - with real UI and slick drawing capabilities and MIX them with web content.

I'm thinking about going to their office and trying to cold call myself a job to make db access/enterprise integration happen.
New Oh...you mean like Dolphin Smalltalk was doing 6 years ago?

New Did it run in the browser
on several platforms?

I don't recall hearing about Dolfin for anything but PCs.
New Yes and no...
...they had a browser plugin tat let you do pretty much anything in a web page you could do with a normal app. However, they limited it to Windows as, at teh time, that was pretty much all they felt they needed to cover; they never got much pressure to support other platforms.

VisualWorks has something very similar as well; it came out probably a year ago

They're based in Boston, so if you do end up in the area let me know, because that's where I live. :)

I'll give up my thesaurus when you pry it from my frigid, frosty, frozen, cadaverous, lifeless, stiff, defunct extremities.
