Gmaps is the main reason why I haven't jumped on iOS.
Google is very, very good at collecting and presenting vast stores of information. Apple isn't there yet, and I don't know if they'll ever be as good as Google.
Yeah, Google's trying to put Google Maps back on iOS, but Apple has made it clear that they want that bit of the ecosystem now. It's hard to see that battle ending in a way that's best for users. The iPhone is a compelling piece of hardware, and iOS has many good features. But things like Google Maps are important to me and I don't like the idea of giving them up. Fortunately, I don't have to decide for a while (as long as I don't dump my phone in the sink again anytime soon). Cheers, Scott. (Who doesn't like the idea of patent battles deciding who wins, either...) |

easy fix
http://www.ign.com/a...gle-maps-on-ios-6
I haven't run into any issues yet with Apple's new maps, knock on wood. I rather like their use of vectors and the ability zoom to any level. The use of vectors appears to allow them to load up a lot more data than Google's tile based maps. |

Thanks. But...
That fix seems to call up the browser and if the browser on the iPhone is like the one on the iPad, I'd prefer not to go that route (memory limitations, etc.).
Atrios adds emphasis to another issue with Apple's implementation - http://www.eschatonb...people-drive.html Apple shouldn't be reinventing the wheel on this - or at least not pushing it out until it's ready. They should be adding value to Google's information, IMO, if they want to be in this space. But it's good to have alternatives. :-) Cheers, Scott. |

I'm sure it'll get better
for a long time if I searched Google Maps for the small city I live in (Fresno), it would bring up some spot in the Texas pan handle instead of just south of Houston. I reported it to Google and they fixed about a year later. With the press Apple's getting, I bet they'll correct reported errors much faster than I experienced with Google.
